What do I wear to a concert? This depends on where the concert is and who is performing. We all feel more comfortable going somewhere familiar and when we have an idea of how others will be dressed. At NEXT Ensemble performances you can wear whatever you feel most comfortable wearing. You will find people in jeans and a t-shirt to some people wearing a really lovely dress or shirt and tie. Even the musicians performing for you may be wearing casual clothes. What we are wearing is not what the concert is about, it is about the music and the story it tells. So come as you are. All are welcome!
How does an oboe make sound? Remember blowing on snake grass as a kid to make it vibrate? A similar thing happens with an oboe and other woodwind instruments. An oboe uses a reed to make that vibration and make a buzz sound. Then the oboe changes that buzz sound into notes. The sound waves are changes into specific tones by the shape of the oboe. The holes/keys disrupt the sound waves and change the tones. Other reed instruments work the same way, but the shape of the instrument changes the sound waves into tones that are specific to that instrument.
